Saddle Repairs on the Costa del Sol

Welcome to my website, I started saddle repairs quite by accident, my mare developed a bad back and after many months we discovered she had arthirites in her spine just behind the saddle area. It was obvious the saddle I had needed reflocking to be softer... but could I find anyone on the Costa del Sol to do this? NO

My background as a BHSAI and running big stable yards in the UK, gave me the experience of saddle fitting and basic tack repairs, so I took myself off to the UK and did an intensive course under the guidance of David May, came back to the Costa del Sol and was able to sort out my mares saddle so she is now comfortable and a lovely ride.

I now provide this service all over the Costa del Sol, I have found no 2 saddles are the same and some are stitched and others are hooks and screws...but the most important thing for me is the saddle fits the horse properly, so I take a template of the horses back to ensure I balance the saddle correctly.

If you suspect your saddle needs attention don't hesitate give me a call...

Kind regards

Quick Signs of an ill fitting saddle

1. The most obvious is if you turn your saddle over and the panels are lumpy and/or have depressions where the flocking is uneven, this needs reflocking. The effect on your horse is quite dramatic, firstly you will not be sitting evenly so unbalancing your horse, secondly the lumps can give your horse back problems as they create pressure points.

2. New saddles need topping up once you have ridden about 20 hours in them, flocking settles down once ridden and can flatten out too much. Also be aware manufacturers can revoke your guarantee if the saddle has not been topped up, as riding in a new saddle not topped up can damage the saddle.

See Saddlery problems for a more in-depth look.

N.B If your horse has a bad back follow this procedure it will save you money in the long run.
1. Have your saddle checked first
2. Get your vet to check there is nothing seriously wrong like kissing spine.
3. use a qualified Horse chiropractor or Osteopath

I have had experiences where I have been called out to check a saddle after the client has had a Chiropractor treating the horse for sometime, to find the tree of the saddle was broken and was obviously the cause of the problem. Most Chiropractors do not check saddles because they do not know how, but are quite happy to take your money.
